"Specialization in labor was the fuel of the global Industrial Revolution and one of its most critical outcomes. The Theory of Specialization in work has led to performance improvement and raised worker efficiency, which in turn reflects on hospital administration in general, and Total Quality Management (TQM) and the application of its medical standards in particular.
When I began my first managerial journey at King Fahd General Hospital in Jeddah (from 1405 AH to 1411 AH), followed by my second tenure with Medical Services at Saudi Arabian Airlines (from 1413 AH to 1426 AH), and later transitioning across various health sectors, training, and development departments within the Kingdom, I developed a profound conviction in the importance of work specialization. Specialization leads to depth and enriches health and administrative thought.
Although I am now specialized in the field of Health & Hospital Administration—and do not claim absolute knowledge of all aspects of this rapidly evolving and advancing science—focusing on it as a specialized science, profession, practice, and core interest has granted me a broader space to think with a health and administrative vision rooted in the fundamentals of this science and their application. From this standpoint, the idea of authoring this book emerged: (Dictionary of Health and Hospital Administration... Applications on Medical Quality Standards).
When I started working on this book, my initial goal was to provide simple terminology for students of health and hospital administration departments and the healthcare sector within relevant universities, colleges, and institutes. However, through continuous writing and reviewing numerous references, scientific publications, and journals—and as a result of the immense expansion and diverse contributions that all Health and Hospital Administration (HHA) sectors have witnessed over the past ten years—I found myself compelled to cover everything new in this field to present an auxiliary scientific reference in this specialty. Upon completion, it became clear that this book can achieve multiple objectives simultaneously, namely:
To serve as a curriculum textbook for all students and specialists studying health and hospital administration, providing them with a vast scientific vocabulary regarding this specialty and its concepts.
The simplified language makes the book a source of culture and knowledge for anyone with an interest or inclination toward this discipline (Health and Hospital Administration).
To serve as an additional reference for trainees in the field of health and hospital administration by offering crucial terminology, which includes: (Hospital management terms, Total Quality Management terms and their applications in hospitals, medical services terms, nursing department terms, laboratory terms, radiology terms, medical records terms, health education terms, first aid terms, and terms for all medical equipment within the hospital).
Although this book focuses heavily on public health and hospital departments, much of its content is highly beneficial to all healthcare professionals, health and hospital administration students, and Total Quality Management (TQM) applications in hospitals.
